MST: Organising for land reform and agroecology in Brazil

Get an insight into the Brazilian peasants’ movement’s impressive work. The MST (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra - The Landless Rural Workers Movement) has found a loophole in the Brazilian legislation which states that land must serve a social function.  First, they occupy large areas of land that would otherwise have remained uncultivated. Then they work the land as small-scale peasantry, thereby giving the land a social function and thus secure the rights to it for hundreds of thousands of people for agroecological production. NOAH works with MST on their mission to plant 100 million trees in agroforestry systems in the period 2020-2030. They have already planted 45 million and established 300 tree nurseries. In May 2026 we were lucky enough to have a visit from Priscila Rodrigues Araujo from the state leadership of MST in Minas Gerais, Brazil and we recorded the interview for this podcast.  Please listen and get inspired!
