Julie Bindel in Iceland: Feminist Organizations Refused to Meet Her

Julie Bindel is a British writer, journalist at The Telegraph, broadcaster, and long-time radical feminist. For decades she has been known for her outspoken campaign against misogyny, prostitution, and male violence against women.Bindel has visited Iceland several times and previously worked alongside Stígamót — an Icelandic grassroots feminist organisation that supports survivors of sexual violence and campaigns against sexual exploitation — during the movement to close strip clubs in Reykjavík.But on this visit, things have changed.Now in Iceland to research the current state of women’s rights, Bindel says that Stígamót declined to meet with her — something she believes is due to her views on transgender politics. In recent years, she has been a vocal critic of gender identity ideology, arguing that it undermines feminist principles and women’s sex-based rights.
